Speaker Biography - Bill Carlson (Redding, California)

Principal, Carlson Small Power Consultants

Carlson Small Power Consultants is a small primarily biomass power consulting firm with offices in Redding, California and Black Butte Ranch, Oregon, and is a consultant to Wellons, Inc, a Vancouver, WA energy systems supplier. Mr. Carlson was, for several years, the Chairman of the USA Biomass Power Producers Alliance, a trade group representing the interests of the nation’s biomass power plant owners and operators.

Mr. Carlson is also a Board Member of the California Biomass Energy Alliance and 25X25, a former member of the Biomass R&D Advisory Committee of the US Departments of Energy and Agriculture, and a member of the Western Governors Association Biomass Task Force. Mr. Carlson has provided testimony to Congress on numerous occasions regarding matters relating to biomass energy production and its economics and potential.

Mr. Carlson has nearly 35 years experience in the power generation and forest products industries. He has operated power plants combusting wood, coal, natural gas, municipal solid waste, anthracite waste and tires for utilities, rural electric cooperatives and independent power producers. Mr. Carlson recently retired as Vice President of Wheelabrator Technologies, a major independent power producer.

Mr. Carlson is a mechanical engineering graduate of California Polytechnic State University and is a US Army veteran.
