He received a PhD and a Master of Science in Engineering degrees from the University of New Brunswick in Fredericton, NB (Canada). He also has an Engineering Degree in Industrial Chemistry from Ecole Superieure de Chimie Industrielle of Lyon (France) and an advanced degree in Science and Industrial Technology of Chemistry from University Claude Bernard of Lyon (France). Recently, Ibrahim has completed the executive MBA programme at the University of Northern British Columbia in Prince George, BC (Canada). Ibrahim has more than 15 years of research and development experience with the Pulp and paper Industry. His areas of expertise include optimization of power and recovery boilers operation, air pollution (including dioxin emission) control technologies, fluidized bed combustion and gasification, validation of computational fluid dynamic models, design and development of novel boiler probes and safety tools. Ibrahim has planned, organized and supervised more than 80 mill trials in more than 40 Kraft pulp and paper mills to evaluate and optimize recovery and power boiler operation and to investigate air emission issues from these boilers. Presently Ibrahim is leading Paprican’s R&D group focusing on the design, development and implementation in pulp and paper mills of biofuel conversion technologies involving thermo-chemical processes. For his MBA thesis, Ibrahim has conducted a comprehensive study on “biomass availability, economics and technical barriers for the biofuel technologies, and strategic financing for the biofuel industry: A Northern BC Perspective”. Ibrahim has received two Patents and several academic awards including two Paprican Research Excellence Awards, the TAPPI 2000 Best Practical Conference Paper Award, the TAPPI 2005 Stowe Woodward Award for the Best Corrosion and Material Engineering Paper, the PAPTAC 2008 Douglas Jones Award for Best Environmental Paper, and the PAPTAC 2008 I.H.
