Speaker Biography - Nelson Lee, M.A.Sc., P.Eng. (Burnaby, BC) Senior Project Manager, Keystone Environmental Ltd.
Historically, energy projects have faced a multitude of regulatory hurdles. This regulatory involvement and public stakeholder input can slow the project implementation process down and increase the costs of projects if the environmental impacts and aspects have not been adequately identified and managed. Now, however, Bio Energy projects are being blessed with a counter balancing mixture of strong public and governmental support and potentially carbon credits! Our presenter, Mr. Nelson Lee, knows all about the need for effective environmental management and due diligence and also how to turn this into an asset instead of a liability. Mr. Lee recently completed a pre-feasibility study to establish a BioEnergy project in Northwestern BC for a Private Partnership. Mr. Lee’s work analysed the environmental impacts, permitting needs/approvals and the economic viability for five separate project visions - co-generation, pellet, biofuel (both diesel and ethanol) and a co-gen/pellet combination. Mr. Lee assessed the environmental impacts and considerations, weighting these against the permitting process of the selected environmental technology. The renewable wood waste fuel originated from three sources - sawmills, pine-beetle kill forests and diversions from a municipal waste landfill. Mr. Lee has a Chemical Engineering degree from the University of Alberta and a Masters’ degree in Environmental Engineering from the University of BC. He works as a Senior Project Manager maximizing the benefits to his clients from effective Greenhouse Gas and Environmental Health and Safety management. Keystone Environmental completes over 600 projects each year and is actively involved in serving the forest industry sector. |
