Speaker Biography - Taraneh Sowlati (Vancouver, British Columbia) Assistant Professor, Department of Wood Science, Faculty of Forestry, UBC
Dr. Taraneh Sowlati is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Wood Science, Faculty of Forestry at the University of British Columbia (UBC). She is an Industrial Engineer by training. Taraneh received her Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering/Information Systems from the University of Toronto in 2001. She teaches two undergraduate courses, Industrial Engineering and Engineering Economics, to senior students at UBC. Her research interests include mathematical programming, operations research, supply chain modeling and optimization, efficiency and productivity assessment, forestry, and biomass and bioenergy. She initiated the Industrial Engineering Research Group at UBC where graduate students and research scholars work on research projects under her supervision. The Industrial Engineering Research Group collaborates with other research centers such as Biomass and Bioenergy Research Group at UBC, Center for Operations Excellence at UBC, and Center for Management of Technology and Entrepreneurship at the University of Toronto. Taraneh has published several papers, presented her research at numerous national and international conferences, and reviewed many papers for scientific journals. She has also work experience as a software designer and developer, and software instructor. She has worked with the Canadian financial services, oil and gas, mining, energy, and mainly forest products and wood industries. |
